Bathurst a bucket list item for Cam Walton

Sydney based British racer, Cam Walton is looking forward to his return to Bathurst, however, this time making his debut as a driver.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series racer first came to Australia in 2017 as an Engineer to help with DPO Racing with their Ford Focus RS for their Bathurst 6 Hour campaign. It was that trip that sparked his interest in Australian motorsport, laying the foundation for this year.
"My first experience of Australian motorsport was at Bathurst for the 6 Hour last year building and running the brand new for 2017 DPO Focus RS Mk3," said Walton.
"I knew about Bathurst already as it's such an iconic track in Australian motorsport, known internationally for the 1000 and 12 Hour, so the choice to come over then was a no-brainer for me, but having visited Mount Panorama I knew I had to come back and race there myself."
"Coming to a circuit with such history and motorsport heritage attached to it is a special thing. I had similar feelings to when I visited Spa Francorchamps in Belgium for the first time, the desire to come back and drive is huge."
"I'd be lying if I said that racing at Bathurst - and on the 1000 weekend no less - wasn't a big influence when it came to make the decision on my 2018 plans."
"It's bucket list stuff. I'm really looking forward to it."
However, while Walton will be making his driving debut at Mt Panorama, he'll have a wealth of experience in his corner with his Crew Chief Terry Bull notching up his 50th Bathurst race at the event.
Terry has had a long history working professionally in motorsport both domestically and internationally and has only missed one Bathurst 1000 (due to running Helmut Marko's DTM, Formula 3000 and Formula 3 teams in Europe) in 1991 since he first made the trip as part of Allan Moffat's crew in 1975.
Being part of the crew on the Colin Bond/Alan Hamilton car that was involved in the famous Ford Falcon one-two finish with Allan Moffat/Jacky Ickx in 1977 is just one of several highlights from Terry's extensive career and Walton will draw upon all the experience while competing this weekend.
The Toyota 86 Racing Series will take to Mt Panorama for the first time on Thursday (4/10), for practice and qualifying ahead of three races as part of Virgin Australia Supercars Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 support program.
